The Nepal Geological Students’ Society (NGSS) successfully conducted a Geology Awareness Program at Shri Bhringeshwar Secondary School in Bijulikot, Ramechhap, reaching students in Grades 8, 9, and 10.

The program was designed to cultivate foundational knowledge of Earth sciences among young learners while emphasizing the practical relevance of geology in everyday life.

Interactive sessions covered essential topics, including the structure of the Earth, the rock cycle, rock formation processes, and the major types of rocks, presented clearly and engagingly. Students also explored the significance of geology in daily contexts, the mechanisms behind natural hazards such as earthquakes and landslides, appropriate safety measures during such events, and key strategies for disaster risk reduction.

A notable highlight was the discussion that connected local geological features, including regional rock formations, landscape characteristics, and natural processes, to broader Earth science frameworks. This approach encouraged students to understand their surroundings from a scientific perspective, fostering curiosity and deeper learning.

Initiatives of this nature are instrumental in nurturing interest in Earth sciences, raising fundamental awareness of natural hazards, and inspiring students to pursue academic and professional careers in geology.

The society extends its sincere gratitude to the respected principal Mr. Harish Chandra Mahat, the dedicated faculty members, and the school administration for their invaluable support.
